Homemade Taco Seasoning

I’ve tried a few homemade taco seasonings and I have never really liked any of them. I would always revert back to using the packets, but those have such a high salt content and the entire family is thirsty for the remainder of the evening after having tacos.

I came across a taco seasoning mix and gave it a try last night. We all really liked it. My husband thought it was a little bland, but that could be because I mistakenly didn’t add as much cayenne pepper as it called for.

Give it a try and see what you think.

This makes approximately 15 tablespoons
(3 tablespoons is equivalent to one seasoning packet)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (can use whole wheat)
2 T chili powder
1/4 cup onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
4 tsp salt
4 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp oregano

Mix all ingredients together. Add more cayenne powder if you prefer it hotter.
This will store well in an airtight container for up to six months.
