Back To School

Some people think it’s alright to use kids names in their blogs and others don’t. I guess I’m on the fence about it, but I have four and it gets hard to describe which one I’m talking about. I’m not even going to mess with nicknames because I’ll forget them.

Yesterday was the first day of kindergarten for my youngest, Morgan, so I walked her to her classroom and before I left she was in tears. I did what any good mother would do and hugged her, told her she could do this, that in a few minutes the teacher would be talking to them and they’d start their day. We wiped her tears and I told her I’d see her after school and left. She got through the day and when I picked her up yesterday she walked out of the school looking so proud and happy.

I was relieved.

Until this morning.

I walked her in again and she was in tears. She just doesn’t want me to leave her. Maybe because it’s all day kindergarten and she knows she’ll be there all day. She didn’t cry when I would drop her off at preschool, but then again, that was only half a day and twice a week. She was happy when I picked her up this afternoon. Tomorrow, I’ll drop them off and they can walk in together. Hopefully she will feel more independent and won’t cry. I would really like to drive away from the school thrilled that I’ll have a day to myself instead of worrying about Morgan and whether or not she quit crying or the other kid’s reactions. Maybe tomorrow.

There wasn’t much of a transition for Madison and Tyler, my son in middle school. So their first day went as good as could be expected.

My oldest, Kristen, had her first day as a freshman yesterday. I can’t believe it, 9th grade. Most of her close friends went to a different high school than her, so she’s going to have to make some new friends this year. So far, so good.

The kid’s grandmother sent them a fun back-to-school surprise that arrived yesterday. A cookie bouquet! Super cute and tasty! Thank you, Granny!
