My Shy Baby
I know I’ve already said it, school starts next Monday. The teachers are preparing this week and today, I helped out our Hospitality Chairman take a snack and drink cart around to all of the teachers and staff compliments of our PTA. It was so nice to see the reactions of the teachers as we approached their room offering them something to munch on. It was also nice to meet some of the teachers that I had not met before, as well as the new ones at the school. I brought my youngest with me, as I thought it would help her to get re-familiarized with the school. We spent a lot of time up there last year, so she recognized some of the teachers and classrooms and so on. Anyways, she is a very shy child and this has been my main concern for her this year. When we stopped by her new classroom to offer her teacher a snack, we introduced ourselves and my daughter would not even look at her. The same thing happened in the library with the librarian. And, you guessed it, again with the music teacher. I’m afraid she will get in trouble for not speaking! Seems like most parents are afraid their child will get in trouble for talking too much. We certainly won’t have that problem this year. I will say that she’s come a long way. Three years ago, when someone would say hi to her, she’d cry. At least we’re past the tears!

She is an incredibly sweet little girl and so smart (of course, being her grandmother could mean I am a little prejudiced, but facts are facts. She is adorable!)—I am hoping that being with the other kids in the classroom and seeing them interact with the teacher will make her feel more comfortable. I am also hoping that she has a really understanding teacher that is willing to take the time to gain her trust.

Wow…as a teacher, THANKS for your kindness! I would flip if this happened at my school!
I had a parent say that her daughter wouldn’t talk…but she definitely does! Sometimes the kids are totally different when their parents are around (I know that’s not always the case).
