PTA / Austin Trip
As I mentioned before, I left my family behind this past weekend and went to Austin for the Texas PTA Summer Seminar with two other wonderful ladies. We headed out Friday afternoon and after only thirty minutes on the road, we hit a traffic jam. It was more than a jam, come to find out later, the whole highway was shut down. We sat on the highway for at least an hour or more, every now and then we’d get to roll a few inches down the road. We finally arrived at our hotel and as our luck would have it, the hotel over-booked their reservations and they had to bump us; luckily, they accommodated us at the Four Seasons and we had no complaints staying there….it was beautiful.
On Saturday, we attended the classes and then moved back to the Driskill, which was so historical and elegant. After getting settled in our room, there was a knock on the door and the hotel manager had sent up champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a hand-written note apologizing about the previous night. We were absolutely tickled!
The classes we attended were informative and we brought back some wonderful ideas to present to our school’s PTA board to use this upcoming year. We met with many vendors, as well, all of whom were promoting their products for fundraising. I was particularly impressed with the Texas Roadhouse, as they offer certificates to give out for attendance, as well as reading certificates, individual bags of peanuts for the kids…all of which come with a coupon for a free kids meal. There was a small gourmet popcorn fundraiser that we will likely participate in. I will post a link to their site as soon as I find it. They made a salsa cheddar popcorn that was delicious.
That evening, we had such fun laughing, drinking and people watching. There are some interesting people out there and I tell you what, most of the girls we saw did not wear modest clothing…regardless of their body size.
I forgot to pack two things for the trip…my hairbrush and my camera. Otherwise I’d have some pictures to share.
***Update - Deanan’s Gourmet Popcorn. I’m seriously craving the Salsa ‘n Cheddar flavor!
