Kids Clean Their Own Rooms

My DD’s (5 & 7) keep their bedrooms clean on a regular basis and without me nagging them. Envious?

If you’ve heard of the House Fairy, you know how great this system is. If you haven’t, you ought to check it out.

If the girls leave their room messy and the HF comes to visit, she just sprinkles a little glitter fairy dust in various, noticeable places in the room. The girls soon see that the HF saw their room messy and clean it up! Super easy motivation and I’m not the one nagging them to get the job done.

On the many occasions the girls leave their room clean, they find a note from the HF along with a small toy / prize. The HF has to be careful to not add more clutter to the girls rooms, so our fairy tends to bring items the girls are interested in….Pokemon cards, Webkinz, even money can work as a prize, etc.

The House Fairy’s website gives parents suggestions and printable material, as well as online videos for the kids to watch. I thought the videos were a little corny, but my girls got a kick out of them. She teaches them how to fold their clothes, how to get rid of clothes that no longer fit and much more. The parents HF can even post a picture of the kid’s clean rooms on her site and this also provides motivation.

I wish this worked for my older kids, but having the House Fairy visit my DS 13 and DD 14, just doesn’t appeal to them.

This works for me! While you’re here, check out Mom’s Crafty Life’s First Ever Give Away! Ends this Friday!

  1. What a cute, innovative idea. Use whatever works, right? I wish this system would work for as sometimes I need some extra motivation. I wonder if fairy dust would work for me.

  2. That is a cute idea & one I have never heard of.
