Gift Card Holder
Today is my youngest daughter’s last day of preschool / MDO. I can’t believe she’ll be starting kindergarten in the fall. I won’t know what to do with an entire day of silence, but I’m totally looking forward to it! I wanted to thank her preschool teacher for making this year so wonderful and memorable for her. I don’t usually like to give gift cards as a gift, but let’s face it, teachers get a bunch of knick-knacks they don’t want or need. So I went ahead and got her a gift card to one of her favorite places and then made an adorable little gift card holder. Christine gave me the idea and instructions. She made one as a Christmas gift for someone.
Supplies:
two sided paper
coordinating paper
white paper
paper cutter
slit punch
flower punch
tab punch
ruler
stamps (if desired)
two sided tape
Instructions:
Cut out the main piece 4″ wide x 9 3/4″ tall.
Fold each section (see measurements and picture below).
Fold the bottom up 2″, then fold the next section 3 3/16″, then fold the next section 3 3/16″ and then fold the top section 1 1/2″.
Cut an arch on the top section.
Now this piece should fold up into a nice envelope.
Take another sheet of paper and cut the flap to add contrast to the envelope flap. This will measure 4″ wide and 2″ tall. Use two sided tape and tape it on, but be sure to flip the paper over so there’s a contrasting flap.
The next step would be to apply a thin strip of tape to the 2″ flap side edges so when you fold it up, it’ll create a pocket.
Grab another sheet of paper that will contrast with what you’ve already used and cut out the gift card holder sheet. This will measure 3 3/4″ x 3″. Then use the slit punch on the top and bottom - centered, of course, to hold the gift card in. You may want to try this on a piece of scrap paper first to be sure you get the slits lined up evenly and to be sure they’re far enough (or close enough) together to hold the gift card. Now tape this in the top 3 3/16″ section.
Choose what color you’d like to make the tag and the mat for the pull-out note card. Then punch the tag and cut the mat 3″ x 2 1/2″ and then get the white (or light) paper and cut out the card to be 2 3/4″ x 2 1/4″. Tape the card to the mat and then either staple or tape the tag to the mat and card. This will now slide into the little pocket previously created.
To make the cuff, choose another sheet of paper that coordinates with the envelope and cut it out to be 10 1/4″ long x 1″ wide. Fold this around the envelope and overlap the edges, then tape the ends at the center of the envelope.
Punch out the flower and tape this to the cuff - should be placed over the taped ends of the cuff so the cuff looks flawless.
Here’s my finished product that we gave to my daughter’s teacher. It took me less than 30 minutes to put it together.
